Marian Petre

Professor Marian Petre is a professor of Computing at the Open University, Milton Keynes, UK.

Much of her research focuses on expert software designers, including the reasoning and representations that they use, the mistakes that they make, and the craft skills that they employ.

Her interest in craft skills also involves the craft skills of expert academic research and practice, with particular respect to helping students to acquire the skills that they actually need. This is a central theme in The Unwritten Rules of PhD Research, and in A Gentle Guide to Research Methods, both of which she co-authored with Gordon.

Her homepage at the Open University is here
